3/10/20. This series of photographs are inspired by Pete Souza's "Evening light" photos. In quarantine, I’ve learned to appreciate little things. I find beauty where I found none before. (1/2)
3/11/20. (2/2)
3/15/20. My sister's bullet journal
4/13/20. My father has had to get used to working at home. Because there is no office in this house, he has set up in the attic. Our childhood playroom is now the setting for his Zoom meetings.
4/21/20. This photo was taken in the Quogue town toy store, Double Rainbow. This little store is where I would come every summer to get an ice cream cone with my friends. Though it was already closed for the season, it is sad to see it locked up without any plan for reopening.
Nature seems to be thriving while humans are in lockdown. This is the clearest I have ever seen this bit of marsh. No garbage, no cloudy mud. Just clear water, seaweed and some dry reeds.
5/16/20. There have been few activities that my family can do. While staying in isolation, we can go to the beach. Especially in the winter, few people are coming to these beaches. My mother, father, sister and I are often to only ones walking along the shore.
6/2/20. In the city, storefronts have been victim to violent protests and riots. The Black Lives Matter movement has gained traction in major cities. Just a couple blocks away from my apartment, looters created chaos in a Nike store and smashed the window of this J. Crew. The dynamic of the city has shifted from anxiety and worry to anger.
6/29/20. My family has quarantined with our good friends. It has made this hard time bearable. My Aunt Jane set up her telescope so that we could see the bright moon. I used my iPhone to snap this shot.
8/6/20. This was the first time in many months that I have seen my aunt, uncle and two little cousins. They seem to be doing well in quarantine. We baked a cake together and they decorated it.
10/15/20. I have been busy settling into a online college routine, but I had enough spare time to go to the New York Botanical Garden. It was lovely to see the flowers--many were still in blossom, though it is October. Next time, I want to go with my little cousins. They would enjoy the Halloween gardens. (1/3)
10/15/20. These orange, yellow, and blue flowers were so vibrant. I wish I could have used my camera to photograph them, but I ran out of battery as soon as I turned it on. (2/3)
11/27/20. Making eggnog.
12/15/20. My family makes my great-grandmother's Christmas cookies every year. This year, in addition to the family cookies, my mother and I decided to make these. She found the recipe on the NYT Cooking site. They turned out well--not too sweet, but fresh and floral.
12/17/20. I went walking around Gramercy Park with my sister. I know that photos of the inside of the park are not allowed, but this little snowcapped wrought-iron circle provided a window too beautiful not to photograph.
12/23/20. The Vessel has been closed for some time, but it is still beautiful to look at from below. When it reopens, I would love to photograph the view from the top of the structure.
12/23/20. The Christmas decorations surrounding the Vessel were festive and happy.
12/25/20. This Christmas, my grandmother and grandfather could not be with us. The table felt empty without them. Looking back, I regret not having them over. We did not know our grandmother would leave us so soon.
12/26/20. Central Park, NYC.
12/26/20. These ducks were swimming toward an elderly couple who had just opened a bag of bread crusts.
12/29/20. Sometimes, this is what it feels like walking through New York City--colorful, but disorienting.
12/29/20. I love the colors of NYC at sunset. The red brick and blue sky look especially beautiful on film.
1/8/21. I snapped this picture as my friends and I finished walking around Thayer street. I love the quaint and historic feel of Providence.
1/9/21. Two benches in Providence, RI.
1/11/21. I love New England beaches. This one felt incredibly serene and peaceful. Providence, RI.
1/13/21. Last week I went to the MoMA. I thought the colors of this Matisse would be interesting on film. I love the color blocking.
1/13/21. You can't hear it, but the audio of this exhibit was deafening.
1/28/21. Yellow bench and grafitti.
